JotBot was invented in October 1996 as a simple alternative to the HotBot search engine, itself quite new. Version 1.0 ran only on Netscape 2/3 for Macintosh, and in its six-month existence attracted a grand total of 200 users. JotBot lived as a component of Joseph McLean's homepage, with one paragraph of instructions and minimal support. We've jotted a long way in one year...
